Training Program Contact Improvisation with Daniel Werner and Joerg Hassmann
  June 2014 - March 2015 CI-Fortbildungen 2014 - 2015

This training focuses intensively on the principles of Contact Improvisation. We (Daniel and Joerg) try to understand this unique dance form in a systematic way. We believe this brings clarity to the dance, and increases the choices available to us. By focussing on the technical foundations of CI, we invite to also open the doors to the emotional, psychological and philosophical aspects which are a natural part of Contact Improvisation.
The foundation of what we teach is based on on early developmental movement patterns drawn from Body Mind Centering as well as specific partner body work to understand the anatomically efficient movement of the body, with a focus on bones and joints in relation to gravity. From there we take these priciples further to develop efficient movement patterns for the dance by offering pathways (exact movement sequences with a partner) or explorative dance scores.

The Basic Training Programme (in Berlin) focuses systematically on the technical foundation of Contact Improvisation. Developmental movement patterns as the base for human movement further somatic knowledge and explorative anatomical hands-on work create a link from solo movement into the dynamic and three dimensional situations of a contact duet.
The Experienced Intensives (in Berlin) deepen the developed vocabulary from the Basic Training and focus on a specifi c topic of the CI universe.
The Compact Trainings (at various locations in Europe) give a condensed insight into our systematic approach to Contact Improvisation.

Biographies:
Daniel Werner and Joerg Hassmann together:

2005 we connected through teaching a CI class together at the Easter Improv Festival in Goettingen and were fascinated by each others attempt to find words and concepts to understand the technical essentials of CI. This journey led us to founding dancecontact.de - our platform to mainly teach and explore CI but also to use it on stage. The extended training programmes in Berlin are the heart of it. We also worked on a trio together with Sebastian Garcia Ferro that we performed several times in Germany and Spain. In 2009 we initiated the "contact-meets-contemporary" Festival in Goettingen. An highly inspiring attempt to enrich CI based dancing with the knowledge of contemporary dance, which we'll continue developing every year in summertime.. (www.contact-meets-contemporary.de)

Joerg Hassmann (* 1970, Berlin/ Germany):
CI was the starting point for my dance passion in '92. Soon I was driven by creating dance and theatre pieces, bringing improvisation on stage. Anatomy based movement explorations, contemporary dance, ideas from BMC, Capoeira, play and the joy of discovery became my main influences. I got deep inspirations from Lilo Stahl, Julien Hamilton, David Zambrano and Frey Faust. But labbing and teaching have been my main teachers and I have been fortunate enough to teach all over the world. In 1995 I started teaching CI and dance improvisation. 2000 I noticed that dance had become my full time occupation and I happily imagine to continue another 20 years.

Daniel Werner (* 1972, Heckenbeck/ Germany):
I teach CI since 1997, and love to continuously discover new dimensions of this amazing dance form on stage, in teaching and in the jam. My teaching is nurtured by the passion to systematically understand and categorize the underlying principles in CI. I studied contemporary dance at the North Karelia College in Finland and enjoy to work internationally as a dancer, choreographer and teacher. Essential influences for my work also come from Body-Mind Centering, Release-Techniques and Asian Movement Arts. Furthermore I am involved in the following projects: www.dancecontact.de,www.easterimprofestival.info, www.body-mind-presence.de, www.in-touch.es, www.canarian.contactfestival.info.
