Das Solo erforscht den Prozess des Trauerns und die Bewältigungsstrategien im Umgang mit Verlust. Die südafrikanische Tradition, den Geist an seinen wahren Ort zurückzuführen, ist schwierig und zehrend. Widersprüchliche Gefühle werden benutzt, um Schmerz zu verdrängen. In die Zukunft zu blicken ist mühsam, doch notwendig um diesen Prozess zu bewältigen. Die Beschäftigung mit der eigenen Herkunft und der Umgang mit dem eigenen Lebensraum fließt in die choreografische Arbeit von Sello Pesa ein. So entstehen auf erstaunliche Weise überraschende Gegensätze von Pathos und dem humorvollen Spiel mit Theater und Wirklichkeit.
Die Stärke des international erfolgreichen, in Soweto geborenen Choreografen Sello Pesa, ist neben einer exzellenten Technik seine respektvolle und integrative Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen und internationalen jungen Künstlern. Er wurde von der Tanzfabrik Berlin eingeladen an dem künstlerischen Austauschprojekt „Cross Currents” teilzunehmen, das seit Oktober 2008 in Johannesburg und Berlin Choreografen, Tänzer und Kultur Schaffende zusammenführt, um den Begriff des Zeitgenössischen im Tanz in Europa und Südafrika zu hinterfragen. Weitere Aufführungen sind für Mitte Juni 2009 geplant.

This solo explores the process of grieving and coping strategies in dealing with loss. The South African tradition of leading the spirit to its true place is difficult and exhausting. Contradictory feelings are used to help repress the pain. Looking to the future is arduous but necessary in order to manage this process. Engagement with one’s own origins and dealing with one’s own living environment flows into the choreographic work of Sello Pesa. This astonishingly brings forth surprising contrasts of pathos and a humorous play with theatre and reality.
The strengths of Sello Pesa, an internationally successful choreographer born in Soweto, are not only his excellent technique but also his respectful and integrative collaborations with young local and international artists. He has been invited by the Tanzfabrik Berlin to take part in the “Cross Currents” artistic exchange project that since October 2008 has been bringing together choreographers, dancers and artists from Johannesburg and Berlin. Their main focus is on trying to get to the bottom of the term contemporary in dance in Europe and South Africa. Further performances are planned for mid-June 2009.

Heimat heute ist nicht mehr nur geografische Herkunft, sondern auch Hiersein. Die Orte der augenblicklichen Präsenz; Anpassung, Erweiterung und Perspektive. Maik Riebort, Berliner Choreograf und Tänzer präsentiert die bisherige, musikalische und choreografische Arbeit mit Berliner Jugendlichen unterschiedlicher Herkunft im Rahmen des Austauschprojektes „Cross Currents“. Die südafrikanische Choreografin Robyn Orlin und Sello Pesa werden diese Arbeit mit den Jugendlichen fortführen.
Maik Riebort, Tänzer/Choreograf lebt und arbeitet in Berlin, eigene Arbeiten u.a. bei den Tanztagen Berlin und im Dock 11, Zusammenarbeit u.a. mit Tino Seghal und Ismael Ivo. Er entdeckte die Viewpoints bei der Arbeit mit der australischen Theater Company ZenZenZo und gibt seitdem diese universelle Technik an alle diejenigen weiter, die an Performing Arts interessiert sind.

Homeland nowadays is no longer just a geographical point of origin, but also the right here and now. These are locations of a momentary presence, adaptation, amplification and perspective. Maik Riebort, Berliner choreographer and dancer presents his present musical and choreographic work with Berlin youths of various backgrounds within the framework of the “Cross Currents” exchange project. The South African choreographer Robyn Orlin and Sello Pesa will continue this work with these young people.
Maik Riebort, dancer/choreographer lives and works in Berlin and has shown his own work during the Tanztagen Berlin and in Dock 11, among other places, as well as collaborations with Tino Seghal and Ismael Ivo among others. He discovered Viewpoints while working with the Australian theatre company ZenZenZo and since then has been passing on this universal technique to all those who are interested in the performing arts.
