Freistil - Die Kunst der Improvisation

Collective solo improvisational pleasures at Freistil with Cathy Walsh, Evamaria Bakardjiev, Maik Riebort, Anne Sophie Malmberg, Zinzi Buchanan, Bari Kim, Pleasure Rutabaga.

Pleasure Rutabaga has been dancing all her life - She speaks German, English, Norwegian, Korean, Irish, Danish and Bulgarian, but with an Australian accent. Her technique is rooted in improvisation, drawing from music, singing, dance, theatre, poetry, visual arts and somatic practices, all of which she has studied and trained in. She also enjoys cooking up a storm (mainly vegetarian), but has trouble with time keeping, and has difficulty understanding calenders. She is not married and enjoys spending time in the countryside, particularly in the summer at Ponderosa Tanzland festival where she meets many inspiring artists and friends.

Cathy Walsh is a performance maker and doer from Cork, Ireland. She holds a B.A. in Drama and Theatre Studies from University College Cork, and an M.A. in Contemporary Dance Performance from the University of Limerick. She has taken part in various workshops and residencies in Ireland and Germany with the likes of Daghdha Dance Company, and the Fabulous Beast, and was recently funded by the Irish Arts Council to attend Ponderosa Tanzland festival, where she met the other wonderful people who she improvises with on a weekly basis, including Pleasure Rutabaga.

Evamaria Bakardjiev is a Berlin based fierce freelance dance dartist. Her body-mind is influenced by somatic approaches, and fueled by her studies of the 2010 accomplished Pilot project 'Contemporary Dance, Context, Choreography' at the HZT Berlin. She is excited by the question of facilitation as choreographic and performative practice and seeking the regularity of improvisational pleasures. She is in love with Pleasure Rutabaga, as they generously challenge her to live in the moment.
