Shamita Ray “Untitled“

Choreografie Annie Lok
The piece is a contemporary dance solo. It is a complete contrast to the bharatanatyam pieces, and represents a very pure and personal movement language. The choreographer, Annie Lok has been especially commissioned to create this solo, after a movement research collaboration in India. It will be premiered at Tanzfabrik. Shamita Ray performed in Berlin with Wilhelm Groener, with Axel Danses (Belgium), Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company, Sinha Danse (Canada), Tabula Rasa Dance Company, and was assistant choreographer for Tatarstan State Opera (Russia). In 2004 she was awarded a bursary to attend the International Choreography Laboratory in India.
David Hernandez “4 Christa“

Improvised movement monologue David Hernandez
New World School of the Arts. Cie. Michele Ann DeMey, Wim Vandekeybus, Damaged Goods, Rosas und P.A.R.T.S. und gibt Workshops in Europa, USA und Australien. engl: Improvised movement monologue David Hernandez David Hernandez has been building choreographies over the last years through a process he calls “elastic choreography”. This term describes a way of building wherein a very structured “game score” is built leaving the performance somehow set and improvised at the same time. Christa Flaig invited David Hernandez to perform for the Tanzfabrik … and this solo is the result of that invitation. (Also informed by a new solo he is building for Libby Farr). David Hernandez studied Studio Music, Jazz, and Opera at the University of Miami, and Dance at the New World School of the Arts. He worked with various of American choreographers including Dale Andree, Gerri Houlihan, Demetrius Klein, Randy Warshaw, and apprenticed with the Trisha Brown Company. In Europe he worked with Meg Stuart, helping her form Damaged Goods, with which he created and performed throughout Europe, America, and Puerto Rico. Since 1996 he has creatied various solos, worked in collaboration with Labor Gras, a.o., performed and created music with various musicians.
Shamita Ray “Tillana“ (Bharatanatyam)

Choreografie Pamini Ramachandran
The Tillana is a very joyous and celebratory dance, with lots of fast footwork, leaps and turns. This Tillana interestingly, also tells the story of bharatanatyam itself, and explains all the elements of music, rhythm, expression and feeling which make up the dance.
