Freistiltraining mit Satu Palokangas - "The Somatics of Improvisation "
2-6 November 09 - 10:00-12:00 h , €6 drop in/open training for advanced movers & performers

These classes are based on Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis and somatic explorations. The core elements from the Laban work; Body, Effort, Shape and Space, will be investigated in detail, using combinations of movement, voice and language. Shedding light to each of these areas, we gain a deeper understanding of the structural, functional and expressive aspects of our movement. We learn to refine our instrument and explore the interrelations between our body and mind.
Recognizing our personal movement signatures and our habitual choices, the work aims to expand our range of expression and provide more choices both in and out of the studio. The work develops our ability to think in movement, realigning our perceptions with our actions and challenging us to be more responsive and reflective to changing conditions, moment by moment.
This training is aimed for performers with a good background in improvisation.

Satu Palokangas works as a performer, a somatic movement therapist and a Laban/Bartenieff movement analyst, and holds a MA in Live Art and Performance Studies. Currently she teaches at the Theatre Academy of Helsinki and in dance institutions and festivals around Europe. In her teaching, Satu advocates an exploratory and improvisational approach, which allows us to make connections between our internal and external worlds and make meaning from our movement. She teaches the Laban/Bartenieff work as a research into ourselves and into the world at large, using our bodies and movement as the lens through which perceive, experience and act upon our environment.
